What is the difference between the accuracy and resolution of load cell?

Accuracy and resolution of load cell are two different concepts, which describe the different characteristics of the cell.40dcaa1906f8275cd0083471dbe13e8b_.jpg

Accuracy:

Accuracy refers to the proximity between the measured result of the sensor and the real value, in other words, it is the difference between the output value of the sensor and the actual physical quantity. Accuracy is usually expressed as a percentage, and sometimes an absolute value is given, indicating that the sensor can achieve the best in the whole range.

Big deviation.

Accuracy is affected by many factors, including but not limited to:

Quality of manufacturing process;

Accuracy of calibration process;

Environmental conditions (such as temperature and humidity);

Long-term stability (drift over time);

Resolution refers to the ability of the sensor to detect the smallest input change. Simply put, it is the smallest increment or change that the sensor can recognize, and the resolution is usually related to the reading ability of the sensor, not the difference between the measured result and the real value.

The importance of resolution lies in:

It determines how subtle changes the sensor can detect.

High resolution means that the sensor can capture the changes of the input signal in more detail.

The resolution usually depends on the design of the sensor and the number of bits in its internal analog-to-digital converter (ADC).

Difference:

Accuracy focuses on the difference between the measured results and the real values, which is an indicator of accuracy.

Resolution focuses on the minimum input variation that the sensor can distinguish, which is an indicator of sensitivity.

For example, a sensor with high precision can provide reliable measurement results in the whole measurement range, but its resolution may be low, which means that it can only detect changes in a large range; On the contrary, a sensor with high resolution can detect very little.

However, if the accuracy is not high, the measurement results may not be so reliable.

When selecting and using load cells, it is necessary to balance the choice of accuracy and resolution according to the requirements of specific applications. Some applications may be more concerned about whether the sensor can provide accurate measurement results (that is, high precision), while other applications may be more concerned about whether it can detect micro-changes (that is, high resolution).
