Magnetic and electric fields may indeed interfere with some types of load cells, especially in high-precision measurement applications. This disturbance mainly affects those sensors that work by electromagnetic principle, such as sensors based on magnetostrictive effect or Hall effect. For these sensors, the external electromagnetic field may change their internal electromagnetic characteristics, thus affecting the accuracy of the measurement results.
Influence of electromagnetic interference
Magnetic field interference: A strong magnetic field may change the magnetization state of the material inside the sensor, and then affect the output signal of the sensor that depends on the change of magnetic field.
Electric field interference: electric field can cause the capacitance value of capacitive sensor to change, thus affecting the measurement results; At the same time, the electric field may also introduce noise through coupling and reduce the quality of the signal.
Methods to reduce electromagnetic interference
Shielding: Using metal shielding box to wrap the sensor can effectively shield the interference of external electromagnetic field. It is very important to choose appropriate shielding materials. Usually, copper, aluminum and other materials with good electrical properties are used for grounding. Ensuring that the sensor and its related circuits are well grounded will help reduce the interference from power lines and other electrical equipment.
Cable selection: Using shielded cable to connect sensor and reading equipment can reduce electromagnetic interference during transmission.
Layout optimization: reasonably plan the relative position between sensors and other electrical equipment, and avoid placing sensors near strong electromagnetic sources.
Filtering technology: The noise component caused by electromagnetic interference can be removed by adding an appropriate filter in the signal processing stage.
In short, although electromagnetic interference may affect the performance of the load cell, these adverse effects can be effectively alleviated or eliminated by taking the above measures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the measured data.
